What’s the Helphen’s Steeple in Elden Ring?
Helphen’s Steeple is a greatsword that primarily scales with Intelligence and Strength, with a minor scale in Dexterity. You’ll need 22 Intelligence, 19 Strength, and 10 Dexterity to wield it effectively. It uses Somber Smithing Stones to upgrade and, when fully upgraded, packs a powerful punch both physically and magically (its parameters at Level 10 are 247 for both). What makes Helphen’s Steeple so interesting is its unique skill, Ruinous Ghostflame.
This ability applies a Ghostflame effect to the weapon, which boosts its magic damage and also applies Frostbite build-up. If you’re looking for a powerful weapon that blends magic and physical damage, Helphen’s Steeple is a great option.
How to Find Helphen’s Steeple in Elden Ring
Reaching the Giants’ Mountaintop
You won’t be able to obtain Helphen’s Steeple until you’ve progressed significantly in the game. It’s located in the Giants’ Mountaintop, which is on the other side of the Grand Lift of Rold. To reach this area, you first need to reach the capital city and defeat Morgott. After defeating him, you’ll be tasked with heading to the Giants’ Mountaintop and given the medallion for the lift from Melina.
Defeating the Tibia Mariner
The Mountaintops of the Giants has its own Tibia Mariner, a ghostly boat steered by a hunched-over skeleton in tattered clothes. You’ll need to defeat this boss to get your hands on the Helphen’s Steeple. Here’s how to find him:
- Start at the Snow Valley Ruins Overlook Site of Grace, near the Minor Erdtree on the map (it’s across the bridge before the Erdtree).
- Head Northwest towards the cliffside close to Castle Sol. You can peer down over the edge and find the Tibia Mariner rowing its boat on a small bit of cliff.
- Jump down and engage the boss, but be careful as the area is quite small and the Mariner can summon massive skeletons.
Alternative Location for the Tibia Mariner
You can also find a Tibia Mariner in a graveyard to the northwest.
- Leave the capital city through the large door in the northeastern part of the main road.
- Follow the pathway until you reach the Grand Lift of Rold.
- Head northwest after reaching the top of the lift. You’ll see an area where the ground raises and you can get up on the cliffside.
- Follow the cliffside to the graveyard to the northwest, and you’ll find a Tibia Mariner. This Mariner won’t act as a boss and won’t summon enemies.
Reward for Defeating the Tibia Mariner
Once you defeat either Tibia Mariner, you’ll be rewarded with the Helphen’s Steeple. You can then use Somber Smithing Stones to upgrade the weapon and unlock its full potential.
Helphen’s Steeple is a powerful weapon that can be a valuable asset in your Elden Ring journey, especially if you enjoy magic and want to utilize a greatsword with a unique and destructive Ghostflame effect.
