What feature does Season 7 bring?
Season 7 brings the “Headhunting Zones” in Diablo 4, which are reminiscent of the Hell Floods. While the Helltide areas are marked red on the map, you can recognize the Headhunting Zones by the turquoise areas. In the areas, you will find numerous headhunting tasks that you complete to collect “Ghastly Gifts” for the Whispering Tree.
So far, the Helltides have been the best place to go for leveling and looting, especially in the early game. Due to the high monster density and the combination with the whispering tasks, you can farm XP, gold and loot really well there. In Season 7, the Helltides will be supplemented by the new headhunting zones, explained Design Director Daniel Tanguay in the YouTube livestream on January 16.

What happens in the Headhunting Zones?
In Season 7, the Whispering Tree is missing its heads. To appease the tree, players will have to complete new whispering bounties in Sanctuary. There is a chance that the tree will offer you a “bequeathed” box to choose from.
The missing heads of the tree are roaming around in Sanctuary and looking for new bodies. This will spawn the turquoise headhunting zones on the map, which are ideal for headhunting. If you complete them, you will collect gifts for the tree. On top of that, “Uprooted Cocoons” can spawn, where Head-Rotting bosses appear.
What is it worth it for?
The new “Witch Tides”, as some players have called them on the PTR according to Daniel Tanguay, are worthwhile for several reasons:
- You farm XP, loot and gold in the zones.
- You have the opportunity to collect gifts for the tree and pick up the boxes directly from a raven of the tree that spawns in the zones. This way, you don’t have to go back to the Whispering Tree every time.
- You collect Favor of the Circle and thus level up in the new reputation system in Season 7. At the end, a “Magnificent Spark” awaits you again, which you need to craft Mythics.
- You collect Mats, which you need to craft the new “Occult Gems”.
In Season 7, it should be even faster to farm the crates from the tree, because:
- the layout of the Whispering Tree will be reworked so that the waypoint is closer to the tree.
- you will find merchants there where you can get rid of the loot directly if you don’t need it.
- in the headhunt zones you will always find a raven of the tree where you can give your gifts.
The “Witch Tides” will be available in Diablo 4 at the start of Season 7 on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. The season is all about witch powers, which is also reflected in special mechanics. You will receive powers of witch power and “Occult Gems”, which you can use to upgrade your builds.
