The first announcements for Season 7 in Diablo 4 are out and the date for the PTR has also been set. What the new season mechanic is, what new content is coming to the game and when you can test it, you can find out here on iGV.

In the last “Campfire Chat” livestream, the developers announced that there will be another PTR for Season 7 in Diablo 4. In addition, they have already offered an insight into the content of the upcoming season. We summarize all the important information for you below and update it regularly.

Season 7: Release Date, PTR and Patch Notes

When does Season 7 start? So far, there is no date for Season 7. Usually, the seasons in Diablo 4 last around 3 months. Since Season 6 started on October 8 together with the Vessel of Hatred expansion, Season 7 could be in the starting blocks in January. As soon as there is a date, we will update the article.

Is there a PTR for Season 7? In the “Campfire Chat” livestream, the developers announced that there will be a PTR for Season 7. The PTR (Public Test Realm) runs from December 3 to December 10, 2024. There you can test all the new content that Blizzard has shown in the livestream from day 1. Unlike usual, seasonal content is also available this time.

Are there patch notes for Season 7? The patch notes for the PTR patch 2.1 were made available by Blizzard on Wednesday, November 27. We summarize the content from the patch notes for PTR Patch 2.1 in Diablo 4 here. As soon as Season 7 is in the starting blocks, there will also be revised patch notes based on feedback from the PTR.

Season 7: Theme and Features

What is the theme of Season 7? So far, Blizzard has not announced the theme for Season 7. The theme of Season 6 was also “secret” for a long time, but attentive players have already seen it on the PTR at the time. Since there are supposed to be powers of witch power in Season 7, the topic could perhaps also go in that direction.

What’s in Season 7? In the “Campfire Chat” livestream, the developers reported on the seasonal content and some “Quality of Life” changes in Diablo 4.

  • New Armory: In the Armory, you have the option to save, name and change your builds. This is a feature that players have been demanding since the release of Diablo 4.
  • Season mechanic: The powers of witch power are more or less the mechanics in Season 7. You learn witchcraft by earning seasonal reputation by completing corresponding tasks for the “Whispering Tree” and defeating “Putrefaction” enemies. You gain and upgrade the powers at a Witches’ Coven Altar at the “Whispering Tree”.
    • The powers of witch power are reminiscent of the witch doctor from Diablo 3 in terms of individual skills. With the Piranhado skill, for example, you summon a “Piranhado” that pulls enemies towards it and deals damage. And “Vengeful Spirit” spawns a minion that takes damage and deals Shadow damage.
  • New seasonal enemies, the “Lazy Heads”: There are certain bounty tasks for the “Whispering Tree” that refer to the special enemies, but also boss variants of them. If you kill the bosses, you will receive her head, which you can exchange for the seasonal occult gems. You have a better chance of getting the heads at higher Torment levels and with a Potion of Whispers. Killing the “Head Rot” also earns you Restless Rot.
  • Occult Gems: The occult gems are seasonal, socketable items that you can get from the “Whispering Tree”. For this you need, among other things, the heads of the “head rotten”, and gem fragments. The gems give you additional affixes and complement the powers of sorcery. Each occult gem gives you 160 armor and 8% resistance to all types of damage.
  • Items: There will be 8 new uniques and 3 new runes (the latter if you own Vessel of Hatred). For this purpose, “bequeathed” items (ancestral items) are reworked. When an ancestral item drops, it always drops with an aspect in the best variant. The general drop rate of items will be increased at all Torment levels. This is a point of criticism from the community in Season 6, because some variants of the ancestral items drop less often than the super-rare Mythic Uniques.
  • New reputation system: In Season 7, there will be a reputation system again, where you can get items, mats and finally a “Magnificent Spark” for crafting Mythic Uniques. You earn reputation by completing whisper tasks. At special reputation levels, you unlock new witch powers.
  • Class Quest: You can permanently unlock the class quest if you have already completed it with a player character from the class. According to Blizzard, you have to log in with the character once (seasonal characters are also possible) and then unlock them for the entire account. So you don’t have to go through the quest line again – but you can if you want.
  • Quality of Life Changes: The layout of the Whispering Tree location will be revised, merchants will be added, and the waypoint will be moved to help players get to the tree faster. In addition, there will be “Ravens of the Tree” on the map, where you can hand in your gifts, so you don’t always have to go to the tree. On top of that, you get new reward boxes with “bequeathed” items.

Season 7: Tips and Best Classes

What do I need to do before the end of Season 6? Since it is not yet clear exactly until when Season 6 will run, you still have enough time to do everything that is available in the season. This includes:

  • Complete the Battle Pass and bag the rewards if cosmetics are important to you and you like the style of the Battle Pass.
  • Complete the Season Journey and collect loot.
  • Collect achievements if you value such things.
  • Do seasonal events – like the Realm Walker – and try out the seasonal items (Opals).

If player titles are important to you, you also have the opportunity to unlock a secret title in Season 6. However, you have to complete a few tasks to do this:

Which class is the best in Season 7? So far, it is not yet clear which classes and builds will be the best for the endgame in Season 7. In Season 6, the tier list in Diablo 4 is dominated by the Ghostborn, who came into the game with the Vessel of Hatred expansion. Other classes are far behind him, but they all have a few builds that will help you get through the endgame well.

However, many of the powerful builds of the Ghostborn are based on bugs that will be fixed in the coming season. In a past livestream, Blizzard explained that they are planning changes to the Spiritborn in Season 7. The developers advise you to enjoy what you have left now. Buy Diablo 4 Gold while you still can, as the changes might affect your strategy and the economy.
