Here’s Why Diablo 4’s 1.1 Patch Sucks
Dubbed As the Worst Patch to Any Video Game
The Diablo 4 community is in an uproar, overwhelmingly criticizing the 1.1 patch. Forums and social media are flooded with negative comments, calling it the worst major patch ever released. This stark contrast to the generally positive reception of the previous patch, 1.0.4, highlights the disconnect between Blizzard’s intentions and the player experience. The widespread discontent stems from a perceived lack of understanding of the game’s current problems, with many feeling the patch exacerbated existing issues rather than addressing them. This feeling of being let down is particularly strong regarding the handling of class strengths and neutral element adjustments.
The Neutral Nerfs Are A Huge Blow to All Classes
Blizzard’s neutral nerfs have negatively impacted all classes. Key adjustments to Critical Hit Damage, Vulnerable, and Cooldown Reduction have demonstrably reduced damage output and increased difficulty, particularly for classes that heavily relied on these attributes. Furthermore, the nerfs seem to have disproportionately hurt survivability, as resistances and Aspect adjustments have apparently made characters significantly more vulnerable to attacks. This resulted in fewer damage spikes and significantly increased difficulty in completing world events.
For example, the barbarian’s Hammer of the Ancients build, once capable of massive damage peaks (6-8 million), now struggles to reach the same heights, often hovering around 5 million. This significant decrease in potential damage output is felt by many classes due to the nerf of neutral stats.
The Sorcerer Class is Weaker Than Ever
The Sorcerer class has been particularly hard hit by the patch’s changes. Nerfs to core skills like Devouring Blaze have significantly decreased damage output. This, combined with an already fragile survivability profile for the class, has made it even more vulnerable in combat. This has led to a massive decrease in player enjoyment and the sense of powerlessness to deal the necessary damage.
Asmongold Speaks Up
Asmongold, a prominent streamer and player, voiced his significant disappointment with the patch. He noted that the update has made the gameplay experience far more challenging, including a noticeable reduction in damage output and increased difficulty in leveling. Crucially, his concerns echo those of a large portion of the Diablo 4 community. He specifically criticized the lack of addressing pre-existing problems, such as issues with certain builds, stash space, and resurrection mechanics, which felt like a missed opportunity to refine the game in a significant way.
Players and viewers agree that, although nerfs were expected to a certain degree, the patch wasn’t well-received. It’s been widely pointed out that this patch failed to tackle major concerns that have been brought up about the game since its release. Specifically, players felt that Blizzard has been dismissive of the problems raised by the community about Necromancer builds, stash space, and rez issues.
Season of the Malignant Isn’t Looking Too Hot
Blizzard’s upcoming Season of the Malignant faces an uncertain start due to player outrage. The extensive nerfs to almost every class and core gameplay elements have led to a significant drop in player morale. The community’s frustration with these decisions has led to discussions about players possibly abandoning the game, indicating a serious negative impact on the game’s future. As a consequence, Blizzard plans a community Q&A session (Campfire Chat) to address concerns. Player’s hope is that this Q&A session can lead to some positive changes and prevent a large exodus of players.
Blizzard’s acknowledgment of the need to address player feedback through the scheduled chat gives some hope, but the community’s overall reaction to the patch suggests that it might take more than just a chat to truly revitalize the game’s appeal. The negative sentiment highlights the potential for serious impact on the engagement and longevity of Diablo 4, especially with the upcoming season launch.
