Diablo 2 Resurrected: Leveling Guide

Diablo 2: Resurrected Leveling Guide (Tips & Tricks)

Keep your chipped gems chipped!

Don’t rush to upgrade all your gems in the Horadric Cube. While tempting to get the best possible gem, you’ll need chipped gems to roll runes to higher levels. From EL runes to ORT runes, you can often progress by rolling identical runes. However, for runes like THUL and beyond, you’ll need chipped gems to ascend. For instance, three THUL runes plus a chipped topaz can yield an AMN rune. Similarly, three AMN runes and a chipped amethyst can create a SOL rune. This method, using chipped gems, can help you obtain runes up to IO. Beyond that, flawed gems are required for LUM and higher runes.

  • Farming runes, especially those of lower levels, is key early on.
  • The Countess in the Forgotten Tower (Act 1) provides a consistent source of runes. Even though she’s immune to some damage types, she is often worth killing for her rune drops.
  • Start collecting chipped gems. It’s often more efficient to build your inventory of higher runes from lower level gems rather than rushing and selling your chipped gems.
  • Once you reach Nightmare or Hell difficulty, flawless gems are more common but chipped gems are less prevalent. Conserve the chipped gems you have.

It’s crucial to avoid selling your chipped gems for gold or using them to upgrade already perfect gems. This is because low-level gear often becomes obsolete as you progress, making the gems you started with not worth the effort.

Keep low-level gear, especially the sets!

Don’t underestimate the value of low-level gear, particularly sets. The grind from Normal to Hell difficulty can be substantial. While you might get overpowered gear early in the game with help from others, grinding solo can be made easier with specific sets. These early sets provide beneficial bonuses that are invaluable during the earlier stages of the game, making the leveling process less strenuous.

  • Arctic Gear is useful for the Amazon class if you intend to play as a bow or javelin character. This set’s effect, “Cannot be Frozen,” is a significant aid in leveling.
  • Sigon’s Set provides impactful bonuses across various classes, making it a general-purpose set that aids in leveling. Its 30% attack speed increase from Sigon’s Gage Gauntlets, in particular, is helpful at lower levels.
  • Retain these items even after acquiring more powerful alternatives. You’ll find that in the higher difficulties such as Hell these item sets are common drops for MF runs.

Keeping these sets allows you to leverage their advantages to expedite your progression through the initial difficulties of the game.

Save those respecs!

The initial stat point and skill point reset offered after Act 1’s opening quest is valuable. Don’t rush to respec. Wait until you’ve found gear that strongly leans toward a particular skill tree.

  • If you are still unsure what character build you will be going for, keep the resets for later in the game. This gives you time to discover better gear.
  • Respecs are meant to be reserved for times when you’ve acquired gear that confirms your intended build. This is usually in the Nightmare difficulty or later.
  • Remember to save resets so you don’t have to grind for Essences from Hell difficulty bosses to gain those valuable respecs.

Using your respecs strategically avoids wasting valuable opportunities and resources in the long run, allowing you to fully utilize the game’s progression elements.

Remember, these are suggestions. Experiment and discover strategies that best fit your gameplay style and character builds. Sharing your experiences can help other players learn. Happy leveling!
