Destiny 2: Light Update, Sandbox Revamp

Destiny 2: Into The Light Info Released and Sandbox Overhaul

Into The Light New Activity

Destiny 2’s latest content update introduces “Into The Light,” a new activity designed to bridge the gap between veteran and newer players. This free-to-play experience aims to offer engaging gameplay with rewarding rewards, drawing inspiration from past Halo titles like Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach. The key feature is Onslaught Mode, a wave-based horde mode where players defend an objective, the ADU, from escalating enemy waves.

  • Gameplay: Players defend the ADU, a central objective vulnerable to enemy attacks. Enemies in the vicinity damage the ADU, while ADU Batteries can be thrown to repair it. Defending structures like turrets and tripwires are available for purchase using Scrap, earned from killing enemies.
  • Progression: Every 10 waves, Guardians face a boss encounter within the Pyramid ship, with corresponding rewards for each wave completed. Difficulty options (up to Legendary) allow for scaling rewards and an expected 50 waves in maximum difficulty.
  • Reward System: Lord Shaxx will serve as the primary vendor and reward distributor for this mode.

While community reception is mixed, some players see potential, others express concern about longevity. The first of a three-part stream offers a glimpse but not enough detail to solidify opinions. It remains to be seen if this content update will sufficiently sustain player interest alongside the anticipated release of The Final Shape.

Reprising Old Relics

The new Into The Light activity isn’t just focused on new content. Bungie is reintroducing weapons from previous, vaulted content. Players have observed a hand cannon, Midnight Coup, which was previously found in the Leviathan raid (now vaulted). This strongly suggests a broader return of items from vaulted raids, including other coveted weapons like Black Armory from Season of the Forge or Recluse.

  • Vault Returns: Players are speculating about the return of other famous weapons from past content updates, like those from Season of the Undying, Season of the Forge, and Leviathan.
  • Crucible Weapons: The developers have stated some Crucible weapons will be returning, increasing anticipation for fan favorites.
  • Future Speculation: The reintroduction of vaulted items raises the possibility of additional returns from previous raids and seasons, potentially offering a refreshed experience for both returning and new players.

PvP Sandbox Overhaul and Trials Changes

Destiny 2’s PvP arena has undergone a significant overhaul, shifting focus towards more skillful gunplay and aiming. This revision aims to reduce reliance on abilities and incentivize precise shooting. Key changes include substantial health increases across all classes, damage adjustments to weapons and special ammo, and alterations to ability cooldowns and damage.

Feature Change
Health Increased by 30 points for all classes (base health 100).
Body Shot Damage Reduced for most weapons, notably hand cannons.
Headshot Damage Increased for all weapons.
Special Ammo No longer respawns on death, forcing player reliance on primary weapons.
Abilities Damage and cooldowns adjusted, reducing ability spam.

Furthermore, Trials of Osiris has seen adjustments in passages to make Adept weapon and Flawless runs more attainable. New passages like Passage of Persistence and Passage of Ferocity offer clear paths to Adept weapons without necessarily achieving a flawless run.

  • Passage of Persistence: 7 wins (even with flawed matches) guarantees an Adept weapon. Losses reduce win count.
  • Passage of Ferocity: 3 wins in a row prevents the card from becoming flawed; losses beyond the 4th win reset the card.
  • Simplified Adept Acquisition: These passages provide simpler routes to Adept weapons, streamlining the experience for players.

These changes aim to make PvP in Destiny 2 a more balanced and skillful experience, demanding precise aim and primary weapon proficiency, resulting in an overall improvement to the game’s gameplay.
