Spiritborn Geistgeborene Damage Zahlen Diablo 4 Titel 780x438 1

In a livestream, Blizzard explained that they are not planning any nerfs to the Ghostborn in Diablo 4 in the upcoming midseason update. However, this is different in Season 7 and the developers advise you to enjoy what you have left now.

The Spiritborn is the new class in Diablo 4 that came into the game with the first expansion, Vessel of Hatred. At release, the Spiritborn almost immediately secured the top places on the tier list of the best endgame builds in Season 6 of Diablo 4.

Since the release, the community has been arguing about whether the strong class needs a nerf. Some players think that you should simply buff other classes and bring them into line with the Spiritborn. Blizzard has listened to the feedback and is planning changes – but they will not come in the middle of the current season, but only in Season 7.

What is Blizzard planning?

Lead Class Designer Adam Jackson explains in the “Campfire Chat” livestream on YouTube on November 12, 2024, that the question of a nerf to the Spiritborn is probably on everyone’s mind. The team has decided not to nerf the class in the midseason.

In Season 7, however, adjustments are planned, Jackson explains:

In Season 7 […], we’ll be fixing any unintended interactions we’ve discovered with the Spiritborn and making balance adjustments to bring the class up to par with the other classes. So you can expect a lot of changes, but until then: Enjoy what you have now.

Blizzard is aiming for two goals as far as the balance of the game is concerned:

  • Players should feel strong and powerful, they should be able to max out the game with crazy builds.
  • Class balance – there should not be a situation in which only one class is played, for example, because it is so much stronger.

However, the two points are somewhat contradictory. That’s why the developers want to make sure that players can play for a season without having to fear major changes. So if you can “break” the game with OP builds, that’s allowed – at least until the next season.

Exceptions would be bugs, such as the one that led to the strong Evade build of the Spiritborn, but which caused many performance problems. Jackson emphasizes: “With that in mind, we don’t plan to nerf the Spiritborn class in the midseason patch.”

Crazy builds vs. class balance

This is the current status:

In the livestream, Blizzard reported on the state of the Spiritborn in Season 6 of Diablo 4. Class balance is also a big topic in the community in general.

The current season has shown the developers that the Spiritborn is very popular with players: 62% of all players have chosen this class. For comparison, in Season 5, the Sorceress was the most popular class, with 32%.

As for the Spiritborn, Lead Class Designer Adam Jackson explains:

The Spiritborn class performs significantly better than other classes […]. A large part of this strength is due to unintended interactions with the scales and other mechanics. However, another aspect is that some balancing issues lie in the class itself. […] We think it’s a mix of both, with the unintended interactions probably accounting for the lion’s share.

Lead Live Game Designer Colin Finer notes that “unwanted interactions” aren’t just about picking a legendary Paragon node and making a build overpowered, but about “exploiting certain mechanics.”

As an example, Finer mentions the Paragon node “Tough Shield”, which benefits from the maximum health points. Players then invest an enormous amount of time to perfect their maximum life. Blizzard does not want to simply destroy the use, but they want to “fix” unintended interactions.

This is how it continues:

Furthermore, the developers note that this is only a small insight into the midseason update. For those keen on maximizing their in-game experience, don’t forget to Buy Diablo 4 Gold to stay prepared for new challenges and adjustments. In the patch notes, which will follow at the end of the week, there will be a detailed list of the changes. The update itself will take place next week, so secure your resources in advance!

Blizzard is planning another stream in the coming week, in which they want to report more about Season 7. There will also be a PTR again.
