What is this innovation?

The developers of Path of Exile 2 have announced that the new season, which starts on April 4, 2025, will overhaul the well-known resurrection system. The maps that players defeat in the endgame will also receive respawn portals, just like those in the campaign.

In an interview with MeinMMO, the developers justified this step by saying that there has been a big break between the campaign and the endgame so far. While the campaign is designed to present players with major challenges that can only be defeated after several attempts, the endgame is merciless and relies on completing everything in one attempt.

It is precisely this circumstance that the developers want to combat with the introduction of revives in the endgame. The maps will receive a different number of respawn opportunities, depending on the difficulty of the map. But the players saw this as a problem.

Last-minute change

What was that problem?

After this and all other innovations of the new season of Path of Exile 2 became known, there were many questions for the developers. One of the fears, for example, was that the limitation of respawn portals would effectively reduce the loot in the game.

Previously, as long as their characters remained alive, players could return to their storage up to 6 times to store loot. However, this consumed one of the portals each time. With the reduction of the portals to a single one at higher difficulty levels, the innovation would lead to significantly less loot.

How did the developers react?

The developers of Path of Exile 2 took up the legitimate concerns of the players and came up with a new concept over the weekend on how to provide a lot of loot in the endgame despite the new resurrection system.

In a recent statement (via PathofExile.com), the creatives announced that visits to the camp will no longer consume portals from now on. This means that all characters can return to the camp as often as they like to store their loot.

For the first time, it will be possible to loot and stow every item on any map, provided that your character survives. Overall, there is now more loot instead of less due to the innovation.
