Diablo 4 Season 1: Reknown Reset?

Diablo IV Season 1 – Season of the Malignant

Diablo IV’s first season, “Season of the Malignant,” plunges Sanctuary into a new crisis. A malevolent corruption, Malignancy, twists creatures and corrupts the land. This isn’t just another demonic invasion; it’s a pervasive infection affecting all life. Players will join forces with Cormond, a former priest, to combat this insidious threat and uncover its source. The season introduces a compelling new storyline that requires players to explore Sanctuary’s regions while facing unique challenges and powerful enemies warped by Malignancy. This fresh narrative and the urgency of the threat will keep players engaged throughout the season.

Renown Will Not Carry Over

A key change in Season 1 is the resetting of Renown. Unlike other progression elements, Renown, which tracks your accomplishments within a region, will not transfer to the next season. This design choice is intentional. Blizzard aims to create a level playing field for all players at the start of each season, fostering fair competition and encouraging fresh starts. This also enhances replayability; players aren’t locked into previous choices, allowing exploration of different builds and playstyles in each season. The reset ensures everyone experiences the thrill of progression from the ground up.

What Carries Over for Next Season

While Renown resets, several other advancements persist into the next season. These carryovers offer a strategic advantage, providing a foundation for quicker progress without negating the seasonal challenge. Key elements continuing include unlocked waypoints, allowing for efficient travel; discovered Altars of Lilith, boosting Paragon points and obol capacity; explored map areas, unlocking associated Renown; and, crucially, accumulated Paragon points and maximum obol capacity. These retained elements represent persistent progress, aiding players in the next season without undermining the new seasonal content.

What New Things Will be Coming to Season of Malignancy

Season of the Malignant introduces significant gameplay additions. Malignant Hearts, gem-like items with unique buffs, offer considerable build customization, affecting both player power and playstyles. To acquire these Hearts, players must defeat challenging Elite enemies, first in their normal form, then again in a more powerful, Malignant form. The new Malignant Tunnels, accessed after completing the seasonal storyline, provide additional opportunities to farm these powerful items. These Tunnels present mini-dungeons culminating in a Malignant Outgrowth where strategically deployed invokers unleash even more challenging Elite encounters and, hopefully, the desired Malignant Hearts.

Finish the Season for Cool Rewards

Completing the Season of the Malignant offers substantial rewards. While the allure of fresh challenges and a level playing field is motivation enough, Blizzard rewards dedicated players with exclusive cosmetic items and powerful in-game loot. The rewards incentivize players to complete seasonal objectives and maximize their participation in the season’s events and challenges. By pursuing these seasonal rewards, players demonstrate dedication to the game and earn tangible recognition for their efforts. The rewards serve as an incentive to complete the seasonal journey, making the grind worthwhile and rewarding.
