Charms in Diablo 2 Resurrected
Charms are highly sought-after items in Diablo 2: Resurrected, providing crucial enhancements to builds. These versatile items come in three sizes: Small, Large, and Grand, each with their own characteristics and purposes. Crucially, charms must be held within your inventory to activate their effects; they do not function if stored in the stash or Horadric Cube. Only Magic and Unique charms exist; no Rare variants are present. Their importance ranges from early-game utility to end-game build optimization.
Small Charms
Small charms, occupying a single inventory slot, are highly sought after for their diverse and often potent stat boosts. They’re frequently traded as currency, particularly those with valuable modifiers. Highly sought-after stats include:
- Life: +20 Life is a common, yet still valuable, modifier.
- Magic Find: Up to 7% Magic Find is a significant boost to acquiring magical items.
- Faster Run/Walk Speed: A collection of these can significantly enhance movement.
- Resistances: Individual element resistances, or “All Resistance,” for enhanced survivability.
- Poison Damage: Can grant a substantial +100 Poison damage.
The combination of +20 Life and 7% Magic Find is a powerful combination for many players. Small charms with modifiers like Attack Rating, Faster Hit Recovery, and other combinations can be traded for high-end runes.
Large Charms
Large charms, while potentially offering higher values compared to small charms, are not always considered as worthwhile for most players. They occupy two slots in the inventory, and large charms are often redundant. The stat scaling is frequently less compelling compared to using multiple small charms. Large Charms may offer slightly higher values for some stats, but often don’t justify the extra inventory space needed.
Unless a rare large charm offers triple the stat points of a corresponding small charm, the additional space is frequently not a worthwhile investment. If you only find a few superior stat combinations compared to a few small charm with similar value, the double inventory space often won’t be seen as useful.
Grand Charms
Grand charms, despite being larger than large charms, are often just as desirable, particularly for their skill-based bonuses. Unlike other charms, Grand Charms can enhance specific skills for your character class, such as cold skills for Sorceresses or combat skills for Barbarians. The skill bonus is rarely more than +1 per skill, but Grand Charms are highly desirable when coupled with life modifiers, particularly in end-game scenarios.
Grand Charms with bonuses to character-specific skills and maximum life provide valuable end-game utility. Items with +1 to Cold skills for Sorceresses or +40 life are among the most desired types of charms, acting as a crucial component in end-game build strategies.
Farming for Charms
Finding numerous charms is easier with high Magic Find, and focusing on areas with high monster densities is an effective strategy. While boss farming can yield rewards, strategically targeting high-density areas like “The Secret Cow Level” in Act 1 or Ancient Tunnels in Act 2 can significantly improve your charm acquisition rates.
Don’t just focus on boss encounters. Taking down groups of monsters, particularly those with unique enemies and minions, can be just as fruitful in finding valuable charms. The key is to concentrate your efforts on areas providing a substantial number of monsters to yield a consistent number of drops. During end-game, prioritize Grand Charms with skills and life modifiers, supplementing them with high Magic Find Small Charms.
