Defeat Swamp Walker in The First Descendant

What is Swamp Walker?

Swamp Walker is the seventh Void Interceptor Boss in The First Descendant, a challenging encounter that unlocks the Fortress area upon its defeat. While it moves slowly and isn’t as aggressive as other Void Interceptor Bosses, its high health bar and lengthy battle make it a formidable foe. It’s one of the toughest monsters to defeat in the game, demanding strategic planning and proper preparation.

How to Beat Swamp Walker?

Swamp Walker’s Resistances

  • Swamp Walker employs numerous poison attacks, inflicting significant damage and leaving poisonous puddles on the ground. Stepping on these puddles leads to poisoning, making it crucial to prepare at least 2600 poison resistance to mitigate this damage.
  • Similar to other poison monsters in the game, Swamp Walker is highly vulnerable to electric damage. Equipping an Electric ATK modifier and Descendants is vital for maximizing damage output.

Swamp Walker’s Weaknesses

Swamp Walker has several weaknesses that players can exploit to effectively damage it. These weaknesses are crucial targets during combat:

  • Helmet (destructible): Located on the head
  • Sensors (destructible): Located on the shoulders
  • Core Cover (destructible): Located on the chest
  • Brain (removable): Located on the head
  • Shell (removable): Located on the shoulders
  • Core (removable): Located on the chest

Among these weaknesses, the core is the most vulnerable and the easiest to target, delivering the highest damage potential.

Swamp Walker’s Attacks

While Swamp Walker’s attacks are generally easier to avoid than other bosses, mastering timing and positioning is essential to avoid damage. Here’s a breakdown of its attack forms and countermeasures:

Gatling Guns

Swamp Walker’s most common attack involves firing a barrage of bullets from two machine guns. Temporary cover behind a building can provide protection, but buildings may be damaged by the bullets. Rolling can be used to avoid damage once the building is compromised.

Regular Missiles

Swamp Walker fires two types of missiles: regular and toxin. Regular missiles are more frequent and cannot be blocked by buildings. While good equipment can withstand a few hits, it’s generally advisable to use double jumps and rolling to avoid damage.

Toxin Missiles

Toxin missiles inflict greater damage and create toxin pits that cause significant harm if not avoided. These pits linger for a considerable time, so it is important to be mindful of their location during the battle.

Toxin Explosions

Swamp Walker can unleash two consecutive toxin explosions, leaving behind a green bomb that follows the player. Seek cover behind a building to avoid these explosions.

While dodging attacks, it is important to keep an eye on the battle timer to ensure Swamp Walker’s health is depleted before the countdown ends. Note that Swamp Walker becomes immune to all damage when entering rage mode. During this phase, players must destroy all green canisters appearing on its legs to end the rage mode and resume damaging it.

Tips to Defeat Swamp Walker

Understanding Swamp Walker’s mechanics is only part of the battle. Employing the right weapons, modules, and Descendants, as well as strategic planning, greatly increases your chances of victory. Consider these additional tips for success:

  • Prioritize an Electric ATK modifier and Descendants to exploit Swamp Walker’s weakness to electric damage.
  • Utilize ranged weapons to attack its vulnerable areas from a distance. Avoid close combat to minimize the risk of being poisoned or caught in an attack.
  • Equip modules that enhance your resistance to poison and electric damage. This will help you endure the onslaught of attacks and deal more damage.
  • Focus on destroying Swamp Walker’s weaknesses, especially its core, to deal the most damage and expedite the battle.

By combining your understanding of Swamp Walker’s mechanics with the proper equipment and strategic gameplay, you can overcome this challenging boss and progress further in The First Descendant.
