Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Multiplayer Changes Coming Out of the Beta

Activision has unveiled the changes coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 multiplayer, directly responding to feedback gathered during the recent beta. This highly anticipated installment, scheduled for release on October 25th, features a multiplayer component developed by Treyarch, with the campaign handled by Raven Software, the team behind Warzone. Treyarch has diligently addressed player concerns and suggestions, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable experience.

Map Adjustments

One significant area of adjustment revolves around the size and design of multiplayer maps. While the beta maps, encompassing eight total, largely featured compact, often close-quarters combat, the majority of the twelve core 6v6 maps launching with Black Ops 6 will be medium-sized. The beta maps, moreover, were noted to lean towards smaller dimensions, with some incorporating 2v2 up to 6v6 Strike modes. Treyarch is eager to release details regarding their selections for CDL (Call of Duty League) and ranked play, scheduled for Season 1, within the coming months. Treyarch has also indicated plans for adjustments to cover placement across several maps, though further details remain undisclosed and will be released closer to launch.

Spawn System Refinements

Treyarch’s beta testing phase has allowed substantial improvements to the spawn system. Using the two weeks of player data collected during the beta, the team has made substantial progress in refining spawn logic, addressing key issues for a seamless launch. Players observed improvements in the spawn system throughout the second week of the beta, signaling ongoing optimization efforts. Further refinement will continue as new content is added, allowing for constant evaluation and adjustments post-launch.

Enhanced Performance

The beta proved invaluable in pinpointing and resolving performance-related issues. The team has diligently worked on a number of performance-related problems, encompassing script errors, user interface problems, and asset streaming improvements. Treyarch has already addressed in-game “hitching” issues, demonstrating a commitment to optimal performance at launch. The studio will continue to focus on enhancing overall performance both at release and beyond, with ongoing support and optimization planned.

Weapon Balance and Adjustments

Feedback on weapon balance, particularly headshot damage, was meticulously examined. Players reported that low headshot damage diminished the impact of skill and made certain power positions difficult to challenge. The team concurred and is actively implementing adjustments to various weapons, seeking to reward players for landing multiple headshots. However, Treyarch has also acknowledged the need to maintain a consistent Time-To-Kill, indicating further monitoring and adjustments will occur post-release to maintain balance. Additional changes include adjustments to bullet penetration to reduce extreme cases of “wall bang” damage while ensuring normal penetration levels, as well as general weapon adjustments to maintain balance within various classes across the entire map pool.

Movement and Omnimovement

The beta showcased impressive Omnimovement plays, highlighting the need for further adjustments. The team aims to refine movement fluidity and animation fidelity, while allowing players to customize their sprint behaviors. Improvements in animation fidelity for third-person views during slides, dives, jumps, and prone positions will enhance player immersion and predictability. Specific changes like increasing slide speed, adjusting slide duration and resolving issues with mantle assist have been implemented.

Other Notable Improvements

Several other changes are also in progress for launch, including modifications to the Winner’s Circle to reduce duration and mitigate emote spam. An additional player-requested feature is the addition of a kill counter for tracking killstreaks and medals, particularly for players striving for the Nuke Medal and Scorestreak. Camera motion during sprinting, tactical sprinting, and sliding has been reduced, aiming for smoother gameplay. Adjustments have also been made to Kill Order, Sleeper Agent, Equipment (Stim Shot), perks (with repositioned Perks), RC-XD controls, and the camera’s motion during movement to improve player experience and prevent accidental button presses, especially during rapid movement situations.

In summary, the beta feedback has yielded significant improvements across various aspects of the game, resulting in a more refined and balanced multiplayer experience for the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Specific details and further adjustments will be outlined in the launch patch notes.
