How do I start mining in Warframe?
To get started with mining in Warframe, you’ll need a Cutter, a specialized mining tool. You can purchase a Cutter from Old Man Suumbaat in Cetus on Earth or Smokefinger in Fortuna on Venus. Cutters are not bought with Credits or Platinum, but with Standing from either the Ostron or Solaris United factions. Equip your Cutter from your Gear wheel in your Arsenal and head to the Plains of Eidolon or the Orb Vallis.
Your Cutter’s radar will beep when you get close to ore or gem deposits. The beeping will get louder and faster as you approach. Check your minimap for a white icon marking the general location of the deposit. The rock you’re looking for will have a glowing red streak (for ore) or blue streak (for gems), along with blinking blue points around it.
Aim your Cutter at a blue dot and hold down the fire button. A ring will appear with a glowing indicator. Try to release the fire button when the indicator reaches the middle of a white bracketed area on the ring. The closer you are to the center, the better your reward. You’ll earn ore or gems based on your performance after completing this process for all the blue dots on the rock.
What is the best equipment for mining?
The Sunpoint Plasma Drill is the best choice for Cutters in Warframe. It has a stable mining beam, a 50-meter radar range, and the ability to mine even the rarest gems. This powerful Cutter costs 2,500 Solaris United Standing and can be purchased from Smokefinger without any Standing ranking requirements. It can also be upgraded with two Widgets, one to silence the drill and another to increase the laser beam range.
How do I mine rare ores and gems?
Mining in caves often yields better results as they tend to have concentrated ore and gem deposits. Try to land the spinning indicator in the exact center of the bracketed areas to increase your chances of getting rare ores and gems. Pay attention to the “mini-brackets” on the ring – landing the indicator within these small bracketed areas gives you extra gems, further increasing your odds of finding rare gems like Nyth or Sentirum.
What can gems and ore be used for?
Raw gems can be traded to Smokefinger or Suumbaat for Standing. But you can also refine gems and ores into more potent forms using blueprints purchased from the mining vendors. For example, Nyth can be refined into Heart Nyth, and Venerol can be refined into Venerdo Alloy. These refined resources are used to craft weapons, Operator cosmetics, Kitgun and Zaw components, Amps, and even components for certain Warframes like Garuda and Baruuk.
