OSRS Pest Control: Guide & Rewards

What is Pest Control OSRS?

Pest Control is a cooperative combat-based minigame in Old School RuneScape available only to members. Players team up to defend the Void Knight from waves of attacking monsters, emerging from portals. The core objective is to protect the Void Knight while destroying these portals.

The minigame is set on islands invaded by pests, and players use landers to reach the battleground. There are three different landers catering to various combat levels. Dying within the minigame is safe; players respawn on the lander and rejoin the fight, fully restored. Also, upon finishing a game, your Prayer, Hitpoints, run energy, and special attack are replenished.

Players will be rewarded with commendation points after completing the activity, these points can be exchanged for a variety of items which include void knight armour, experience points and resources.

Guide to Playing OSRS Pest Control

Before participating, players need to meet the required combat levels: 40 for the Novice lander, 70 for the Intermediate lander, and 100 for the Veteran lander. Maintaining activity during the game is crucial for earning commendation points. Players can increase activity by attacking enemies and portals, repairing barricades (requires a hammer, granting crafting experience).

A game requires a minimum of 5 players to begin, up to a maximum of 25. If 25 players are ready, the game starts immediately. Otherwise, a two-minute wait begins once 5 players are present. While pets are permitted on the island, they are not allowed on the landers or within the activity itself. Furthermore, certain spells and items like Alchemy spells and Dwarf multicannons, are restricted.

To get to the location, you need to speak to the squire at Port Sarim, who will transport you there via boat.

The Void Knight’s Outpost

The Void Knight’s Outpost serves as the central hub for Pest Control. You’ll find it situated south of Port Sarim. Speak with the Squire to request transport to the outpost, or utilize the Minigame Group Finder for faster teleportation.

The outpost provides essential facilities, including a bank, general store, and anvil with a smith capable of repairing Barrows armor. The Void Knight Archery and Magic stores are also present, with the latter offering various runes. Furthermore, this is where the landers are located.

Before engaging with the minigame it is best to prepare all necessary combat equipment for the type of combat that you plan on using.

How to Win Pest Control

Victory in Pest Control can be achieved in one of two ways. The primary method is to destroy all four portals before the Void Knight is defeated. The alternative, less common, approach is to keep the Void Knight alive for the entire duration of 20 minutes. Destroying portals is the usual winning strategy, as it can be accomplished much faster.

Each portal spawns a diverse range of monsters known as pests. These portals have a shield that is deactivated when the Void Knight hits it. The first shield lasts 15 seconds, then the next shields will follow suit after 30 second intervals. The portals have varying weaknesses, so make sure to bring multiple types of weapons.

Do not afk in the minigame, or you will not be rewarded with any points at the end of it.

Best Strategy

Prioritize keeping the gates closed to safeguard the Void Knight. Designate a small group of players to defend the Void Knight, while the remaining players focus on destroying portals. Avoid standing directly in front of spawning portals to prevent being trapped by emerging pests.

Be wary of Spinners spawning and repairing portals. Focus on eliminating these Spinners, particularly when multiple are present, as they can significantly accelerate portal repairs. Coordinate with your team to distribute tasks efficiently and maximize damage output.

  • Protect the Void Knight
  • Destroy the Portals
  • Take out Spinners

Pest Control OSRS Rewards

Victorious players receive both coins and commendation points. The number of points awarded varies based on the lander used: 3 points for a Novice Lander win, 4 points for Intermediate, and 5 points for Veteran. If the team destroys all portals, players also receive a coin reward equal to 10 times their combat level.

The maximum accumulation of points is capped at 4000. Attempting to enter a game when the accumulated points would exceed 4000 triggers a warning, preventing point wastage. Commendation points can be exchanged for various rewards, including experience, herb packs, mineral packs, seed packs, and Void Knight gear.

Void Knight armour has a minimum requirement of 42 Attack, Strength, Defence, Ranged, Magic and Hitpoints, plus 22 Prayer to be able to equip the equipment.

With this guide, you’re now well-equipped to tackle Pest Control in Old School RuneScape. This cooperative minigame offers a fun and engaging experience, especially when playing with friends. The rewards are worthwhile, providing ample motivation to participate. The challenge it presents will keep you engaged.

Be sure to use effective strategies with your team to efficiently destroy portals and protect the Void Knight, maximizing your rewards and contributing to a successful Pest Control experience. Good luck, and have fun defending RuneScape from the pestilent threat!
