The MMO New World offers you a system without classes. Instead, the weapons determine your playstyle. But which weapons are the best with the launch of Aeternum and which are particularly suitable for PvE and which are more suitable for PvP? We will tell you.
You can expect one tier list for PvE and one for PvP, as both ways of playing are very different from each other. The weapons were assigned to different tiers:
- The S-Tier contains the strongest weapons.
- There are still strong weapons in the A-tier, but they have a slight disadvantage compared to the S-tier.

What makes the weapons so strong? Basically, weapons are strong in the open world, which deal a lot of damage and also kill the enemies without taking much damage yourself. Accordingly, ranged weapons such as the fire staff or bow are useful.
However, things look a little different in dungeons and mutations. There you have a healer and a tank and should focus fully on damage. Builds with rapier and greatsword currently dominate here.
The Life Staff is ideal for solo players in the open world as well as for healers in dungeons, and therefore has a place in the S-Tier.
It’s best to combine a melee and a ranged weapon with each other to get the strongest effect in the open world. In dungeons, a pure build of melee weapons can also be a good idea.
Why are some weapons so weak? Basically, all weapons can be used, but some are only good for specific content. The hatchet, for example, only does okay damage, at short range and without control effects.
The blunderbuss lacks range and targeted penetration. The ice gauntlets get going too slowly, and even with the battle axe, the attacks simply take too long.

What makes the weapons in the S and A tiers so strong?
- The Rapier is currently one of the most destructive PvP weapons in the game, and the Ice Gauntlets bring an attractive mix of control and ranged damage. So the rapier and ice gauntlet duo is a strong choice.
- Alternatively, you can combine any offensive weapon with a life staff. It ensures the survival of you and your allies.
- The greatsword has a good mix of offense and defense, the powerful attacks can cause enormous damage.
- Sword and shield provide you with survival power and control.
Why do weapons end up in the C and D tiers? The control effect of the Warhammer is very difficult to use profitably in dynamic PvP battles. The hatchet does not bring any plus points apart from the damage.
The two firearms, musket and blunderbuss, are too limited. The Doom Gauntlets are simply too weak compared to other options. And the battle axe can be powerful in certain situations, but it’s vulnerable to enemy control and enemies that can keep you at a distance.
