Teyvat Tales: Rostam and Arundolyn

The story of Rostam and Arundolyn is etched into the history of Mondstadt, tales of camaraderie, duty, and devastating loss. These figures, one a celebrated Grand Master and the other his steadfast confidant, were instrumental during the cataclysm that shook Teyvat 500 years ago. Let’s delve into the intertwined destinies of these heroes and explore their enduring legacy.

Defender’s Will and Brave Heart

While not as potent as their five-star counterparts, the artifact sets “Defender’s Will” and “Brave Heart” offer a glimpse into the values Rostam and Arundolyn embodied. These sets, found as 3-star or 4-star artifacts, can be acquired from various domains throughout Teyvat.

Defender’s Will: This set, obtainable in domains like the Hidden Palace of Zhou Formula and Peak of Vindagnyr, grants a DEF bonus with its 2-piece effect. The 4-piece effect increases Elemental RES based on the elemental diversity of the party. It finds niche use on DEF-scaling characters in early to mid-game progression.

Brave Heart: Dropping in domains such as the Domain of Guyun and Ridge Watch, this set provides an ATK bonus with its 2-piece effect. The 4-piece effect enhances the wearer’s damage against enemies above 50% HP. It serves as a more universally applicable set for DPS characters, but, like Defender’s Will, will eventually be outclassed.

The Grand Master and His Best Friend

Rostam and Arundolyn’s bond began in childhood. Their shared escapades filled their youth, filled with imaginative games of knights and clandestine adventures. Legends say they encountered a Seelie one night, which led them to discover a small yellow flower. Arundolyn treasured this flower, a symbol of their friendship.

As they matured, both joined the Knights of Favonius. Arundolyn’s leadership and charisma earned him the title of Lionfang, becoming the Grand Master. Rostam, the Wolf, remained at his side, operating from the shadows. Some whispers suggest he inherited the clandestine network of the Kreuzlied family.

Arundolyn possessed a warm and approachable demeanor, whereas Rostam was known for his serious and stoic nature. Despite their contrasting personalities, their friendship remained unwavering, forming a formidable partnership in protecting Mondstadt. The Defender’s Will artifact lore hints at Rostam’s softer side, mentioning a maiden who could ease his worries.

This maiden was Rosalyne-Kruzchka Lohefalter, Rostam’s beloved. Before the cataclysm, she journeyed to Sumeru to study. Rostam gifted her a timepiece to mark her absence. Furthermore, Rostam mentored the White Knight, who, disillusioned, later became the infamous Bloodstained Knight.

A Series of Tragedies

The Cataclysm that followed the destruction of Khaenri’ah unleashed hordes of monsters across Teyvat. Arundolyn, seeking to end the source of the chaos, led the Knights of Favonius on a desperate expedition to the epicenter of the disaster.

Despite their valiant efforts, Rostam met his end in battle. This devastating loss broke Arundolyn’s spirit, causing him to relinquish his title and lay down his arms. He retreated to his childhood room, where he saw the unchanging yellow flower. This flower was a painful reminder of what was lost.

With Mondstadt vulnerable, Barbatos was forced to intervene, summoning Dvalin to combat Durin, a dragon corrupted by the Abyss. Dvalin succeeded, but not without sustaining grievous injuries, including poisoning. His recovery was interrupted by the Abyss Order, leading to the events of the game’s prologue.

Rosalyne’s fate was equally tragic. Returning from Sumeru, she found her beloved Rostam dead and her homeland scarred. Fueled by grief and vengeance, she embarked on a path of destruction, burning away the monsters that plagued the land. Eventually, she was found by the Fatui and embraced the role of La Signora, the Eighth Harbinger, dedicating herself to the Tsaritsa’s cause.

Conclusions and Further Speculations

The events of 500 years prior to the Traveler’s arrival in Teyvat hold immense significance. This period saw the awakening of the Traveler’s sibling, who then travelled with Dainsleif, and the devastation of Khaenri’ah, sending shockwaves throughout the world.

The game’s central mysteries revolve around this cataclysmic event. What truths did the Traveler’s sibling uncover during their journey? How did they become a leader within the Abyss Order? What truly caused the destruction of Khaenri’ah? It has been hinted the gods of Celestia may have ordered the then-current Archons to do so.

Zhongli and Venti remain tight-lipped about these events, and Ei prefers to avoid the painful memories associated with her sister’s demise. They conceal pivotal information from the Traveler. The quest to uncover these answers will undoubtedly be long.

Despite the mysteries and lingering questions, the journey through Teyvat remains engaging. Hopefully, the truth will be revealed in due course. Embrace the experience of the game, and continue discovering the secrets the world has to offer!
