Destiny 2 Elemental Wells & Builds Guide

Destiny 2: Guide to Elemental Wells and Builds

What Are Elemental Wells?

Elemental Wells are colorful orbs introduced in Season of the Chosen, similar to Orbs of Power. They grant ability energy when collected. Crucially, their effectiveness depends on whether the well’s element matches your subclass. Collecting a matching element well boosts all your abilities, while a mismatched well replenishes the lowest-charged ability. These aren’t random; the element matches the source creating the well, whether a weapon, grenade, or super. A key difference from Orbs of Power is that Elemental Wells are shared by the entire fireteam. The generation isn’t instantaneous; there’s a brief delay between creating wells, comparable to the cooldown on Warmind Cells.

The Mods

Elemental Well mods enhance how you interact with these orbs. They influence well generation, effects, and durations, varying across subclasses and elements. Different seasons bring different mods, each influencing well generation and use. Here’s a glimpse of the options:

Elemental Well Mods (Season of the Chosen):

  • Elemental Charge (2 Energy Cost): Gain “Charged with Light” by collecting an elemental well. Matching element wells grant 2 stacks.
  • Elemental Armaments (2 Energy Cost): Weapons matching your subclass element have an escalating chance to spawn an elemental well.
  • Elemental Light (1 Energy Cost): Defeating enemies with your Super spawns a matching elemental well.
  • Elemental Ordnance (3 Energy Cost): Defeating enemies with a grenade spawns a matching elemental well.
  • Font of Might (4 Energy Cost): Matching wells temporarily boost weapon damage of the same element.
  • Font of Wisdom (4 Energy Cost): Matching wells temporarily increase intellect, boosting super recharge rate.

Elemental Well Mods (Season of the Splicer):

  • Shieldcrash Wellmaker (4 Energy Cost): Breaking shields with a matching element creates a well.
  • Overcharge Wellmaker (4 Arc Energy Cost): Defeating enemies with a finisher spawns 2 Arc wells.
  • Well of Ions (2 Arc Energy cost): Picking up an Arc elemental well enhances the next melee attack’s damage.
  • Explosive Wellmaker (3 Solar Energy Cost): Quickly defeating enemies with explosive damage spawns a Solar elemental well.
  • Well of Life (2 Solar Energy Cost): Solar wells increase regeneration temporarily.
  • Reaping Wellmaker (2 Void Energy Cost): After activating your class ability, your next weapon final blow spawns a Void elemental well.
  • Well of Tenacity (2 Void Energy Cost): Void wells temporarily reduce incoming damage.

Elemental Well Mods (Season of the Lost):

(These mods are the most recent, and the list is quite long.)

Titan Build

Subclass: Sunbreaker (Middle Tree) – Code of the Devastator Armor: Severance Enclosure (Exotic chest) Weapons: Primary (your choice), Solar secondary (with demolitionist, thresh, or chain reaction perks), and Solar heavy (with demolitionist, thresh, or chain reaction). Mods: Elemental Ordnance, Elemental Armaments, Font of Wisdom, Shieldcrash Wellmaker, and Explosive Wellmaker.

This build leverages solar element to maximize well generation from kills and weapons. The exotic chest and perks from weapons combine with the mods for rapid super regeneration and crowd control. The throwing hammer provides a further boost to crowd control and damage. It’s highly versatile.

Warlock Build

Subclass: Stormcaller (Middle Tree) – Attunement of Control Armor: Getaway Artist (Exotic arms) Weapons: No Time to Explain (exotic pulse rifle), Salvager’s Salvo (secondary), and heavy weapon with demolitionist or thresh perks Mods: Elemental Armaments, Font of Might, Well of Ions, Seeking Wells, and Well of Utility.

This build capitalizes on the Stormcaller’s ability to generate Ionic Traces from kills. Getaway Artist enables you to convert grenades into supercharged turrets, which are efficient in crowd control. The No Time to Explain weapon complements this with its turret ability, and Salvager’s Salvo aids in clearing enemies with its demolitionist and chain reaction perks. This build is adept at maintaining a sustained output with a variety of weaponry.

Hunter Build

Subclass: Nightstalker (Bottom Tree) – Way of the Pathfinder Armor: Orpheus Rig (Exotic legs) Weapons: Traveler’s Chosen (exotic sidearm), Null Composure (fusion rifle), Threaded Needle (heavy) Mods: Font of Might, Elemental Armaments, Elemental Ordnance, and Reaping Wellmaker.

This Nightstalker build prioritizes rapid orb generation with the mods for sustained super recharge and damage output. The exotic legs, weapons, and perks combine to provide a consistent stream of wells and significant damage. Power Preservation and other mods synergize to amplify the effect, supporting both solo and fireteam play styles. This build emphasizes both offensive and defensive capability.

Important Note: These are just examples. Experiment with different combinations and mods for your preferred playstyle and class to create the build that suits you best.
