A Straw Hat Scrap
One Piece Odyssey is a JRPG that surprisingly pairs well with the action-heavy world of One Piece. The Straw Hats make for compelling RPG characters, and Eichiro Oda’s art style lends itself to filling the world with fantastical and amusing creatures. The over-the-top nature of battles from the manga and anime provides exciting special attacks in the game.
What We Said About One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is a great One Piece game, and though it wears its many flaws on its sleeveless, red button-down top and straw hat, its smart additions to combat go a long way in reducing the notorious tedium that typically plagues the musou genre. It’s still a tough sell to a non-One Piece fan, but as someone who absolutely loves One Piece and was only just sort of into Musou games, I found a ton to like in Pirate Warriors 4. – Mitchell Saltzman, March 27, 2020

In Memoria
The story starts with Luffy and his crew stranded on the mysterious island of Waford. They meet Lim and Adio, who initially distrust pirates and steal the Straw Hats’ powers. This creates a compelling plot where Luffy and his crew aren’t immediately invincible.

Of The Memoria Locations, What’s Your Favorite One Piece Arc?
One Piece Odyssey’s story unfolds on two fronts: Waford, where the Straw Hats attempt to help Adio and Lim by defeating elemental colossi, and Memoria, a world of memory that allows them to revisit specific locations and events from their past.
- Alabasta
- Water 7/Enies Lobby
- Marineford
- Dressrosa
While the revelations and twists in Odyssey’s story won’t shock long-time fans, the Memoria chapters provide a lot of satisfying emotional payoffs. Seeing the crew’s reactions to revisiting pivotal moments, such as the Going Merry docked at Alabasta, is powerful for long-time fans.
Odyssey’s combat is simple and uses a rock/paper/scissors logic for damage types (power, speed, technique). Battles are generally easy, but certain encounters can be more challenging due to the Dramatic Scenes system which provides random objectives and rewards.
Memoria allows players to explore four locations from One Piece: Alabasta, Water Seven, Dressrosa, and the Marineford war. Each location is beautifully rendered and feels authentic to the original source material.
Despite the easy difficulty, the special skills in Odyssey’s combat are incredibly fun to watch. Each Straw Hat character has their own unique moves that perfectly capture their personalities and fighting styles.
Outside of Memoria, players can explore puzzle-focused dungeons. Each character has unique field techniques that are used to solve puzzles and access hidden areas. While the field techniques don’t significantly enhance the puzzles or exploration, they provide some variety and visual design.
