What are Nightmare Sigils and Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4?
Nightmare Sigils are special items that transform regular dungeons into Nightmare Dungeons. They can be found in your inventory’s consumables tab. Each Nightmare Sigil is named after the dungeon it affects, for example, a Gale Valley Nightmare Sigil transforms the Gale Valley dungeon into a Nightmare Dungeon. You can only have one Nightmare Sigil active at a time. If you use a new Nightmare Sigil while one is already active, the active Nightmare Dungeon will be replaced with the new one.
Nightmare Dungeons are more challenging versions of regular dungeons. The difficulty level is determined by the modifiers associated with your Sigil.
How to Get Nightmare Sigils in Diablo 4
Before you can acquire Nightmare Sigils, you need to complete the main campaign and unlock World Tier 3 in Diablo 4. Once achieved, visit the Tree of Whispers in Hawezar. This vendor offers rewards for every 10 Grim Favors collected. Grim Favors are earned by completing tasks like clearing dungeons or killing World Bosses. After collecting 10 Grim Favors, you can choose from three reward collections.
You should receive a Nightmare Sigil as a reward during one of these exchanges. You can use the Nightmare Sigil on a dungeon to transform it into a Nightmare Dungeon. Only one Nightmare Dungeon can exist at a time, so transforming another dungeon will revert the first dungeon back to normal.
After completing your first Nightmare Dungeon, several additional ways to obtain Nightmare Sigils become available:
- Loot from Elite and Boss monsters
- Found in chests
- Crafted from Sigil Powder
Nightmare Dungeons
The most efficient way to farm Sigils early on is within Nightmare Dungeons. Due to the high density of Elites and increased drop rates, you can expect to gain 3-4 Sigils per Nightmare Dungeon.
Crafting
Once you unlock the ability to craft Sigils, it becomes your primary method of obtaining them. Crafting consumes Sigil Powder and gold, which are more common drops than full Sigils. You can also scrap Sigils with tiers too low for you, gaining additional Sigil Powder in return.
