Desperate Measures RuneScape Quest Requirements
To start the Desperate Measures quest, you’ll need some items. You’ll need at least 100 Orthenglass. During the quest, you’ll receive “The Measure,” which is also essential. Having rapid access to an archaeologist’s workbench is recommended, possibly through an Archaeology Journal. Convenient access to The Heart is also helpful; consider using The Heart Teleport or a Desert Amulet 4.
Skill-wise, a combat level of 75 or higher is suggested, though not strictly mandatory. Meeting these prerequisites will ensure a smoother experience as you delve into the complexities of the quest.
Desperate Measures RuneScape Step-by-Step Quest Guide
Begin your quest journey north of the Burthorpe Lodestone, at Seren’s Council. Ascend to the castle’s first floor and speak with Seren. She will direct you to Anachronia base camp, where you should speak to Mr. Mordaut. He will tell you where to find Charos and Thok, who are located to the north of the camp.
Following their lead will initiate the events that lead to a showdown with Kerapac and a desperate fight for Gielinor’s survival.
Dragonkin Artefacts
Venture north towards the dragonkin gate, descending two sets of stairs. Talk to Thok, and you will be tasked with overcoming a saga involving killing dinosaurs before continuing along the path to the camp. On your way into the camp, converse with Laniakea, then speak with Charos. South of Charos, excavate the designated spot to uncover a damaged Dragonkin device. Repair it at an archaeologist’s workbench, using 50 Orthenglass. Once repaired, return to Charos and present the device to him.
Another excavation site will appear to the north. Excavate this site to unearth the Dragonkin tablet (damaged). Once again, use 50 Orthenglass at the archaeologist’s workbench to obtain the repaired Dragonkin tablet. Then, show it to Charos.
Hannibus Shared Memory
Your next destination is Hannibus’ ranch, near Prehistoric Potterington. Show him the newly found devices. Hannibus can translate the tablet. He’ll ask you to meet him to the northeast. You will find him and he will explain the ruins are inhabited by the Nodon, who believed they could sleep through the curse. Hannibus says the Nodon are in a shared dream, which you can enter.
Within the dream, you’ll observe two Nodon caretakers. Hannibus will instruct you to follow the first Dragonkin. The Dragonkin will go to the northern door in the ruins after leaving the room, and say “Hepencaraun” to enter the lower chamber. Then watch the other Dragonkin input a code on the pylon to the southeast. Inspect the pylon to get the correct symbol. Use that symbol to access the lower chamber, after that you can talk to Hannibus again.
The Kindra Council Memory
Once inside the lower chamber, talk to Hannibus to enter another dream – the Kindra Council Memory. Run up the eastern path and talk to Hannibus to start the memory. The council’s meeting will begin, with the four factions of Dactyl, Syrtes, Nodon, and Aughra speaking before disappearing. However, two Nodon will stay and notice you and Hannibus. They will be informed that Kerapac is planning to destroy Gielinor. You’ll also see a vision of how Kerapac’s experiments angered the Elder Gods, resulting in the binding of the Dragonkin to the Stone of Jas.
After the dream, you will return to the real world with Thok and Charos. Shortly after, Kerapac appears, knowing your plans. While Hannibus attempts to reason with him, Charos and Thok attack. You can also attack Kerapac, but it will not deal damage. He mentions that you cannot attack him effectively because of the Needle’s power. He decides to spare you and urges you to enjoy your last moments.
Dinosaurs and Base Camp Defence
Return to Anachronia and speak to Charos near the lodestone. Kerapac has entered a volcano and can now control the dinosaurs on the island. He will send waves of them to attack the camp.
Empty your hands and speak to Thok to receive his stick. Defend the camp from five waves of dinosaurs, using your allies’ skills to target specific threats. Thok can perform heavy attacks, Hannibus can use mind control, Charos has the power of fire, and Laniakea uses spears and poison vials.
Breaking into Kerapac’s Laboratory
Talk to Charos near your quest starting point, and he will instruct you to examine the power coming from the radio. Charos will give you “The Measure” to help you locate him four times in the Ruins.
- The first location is north of Charos through the archway.
- Follow the agility course to find Charos in a clearing to the north.
- Find the third location west of the lodestone.
- The last location is east up the stairs from where you were before.
Lab Security
Return to the location where you first encountered Thok and Charos; an entrance should now be visible. The shadow anima power permits only one person to enter; otherwise, it means certain death. You are informed that Guthix’s blessing has made you the perfect candidate to enter without being ripped apart.
Inside, four pylons power the security. Each pylon is unlocked with symbols that represent the name of an Elder God, which can be determined by the number of symbols matching the number of characters in the name. Once you identify each room’s name, you can apply them to the relevant pylon to deactivate them.
Defeating the Black Stone Dragon
After deactivating the four pylons, a cutscene will occur. Enter the northern part of the lab where a level 91 Black Stone Dragon acts as security. This fight is similar to the one in the Dragonkin Laboratory, but easier. You’ll need some food and decent combat equipment. The dragon won’t summon black hands, and dragonfire protection is unnecessary. However, the dragon will lash out with a spiral of flame.
Once the dragon is defeated, Kerapac will appear, angry with you for interfering with his plans to save the world by sacrificing only one. Use the Eye of Jas to allow Jas to chime in, claiming control of the Needle and Kerapac. Kerapac begs for death, but Jas refuses. Kerapac suggests you leave before the lab collapses.
Escaping and Completing the Desperate Measures RuneScape Quest
You will have two minutes to escape. Head east, where three large rocks will trap you. However, now that the dragon is dead, your allies can enter. Charos and Thok will help you escape by smashing the rocks blocking your path, while Hannibus guides you down a side path. Continue along while avoiding the falling rocks. Outside the lab, a cutscene shows the Elder Goddess Ful emerging from the volcano to destroy it and the lab.
Talk to one of the allies and then speak to Charos, who will instruct you to tell Seren about Kerapac’s fate. You can reveal whether Guthix imbued you with shadow anima. Either way, you will have completed the quest!
