OSRS Agility to Get a Jagex Overhaul

Jagex Will Improve the Agility Skill for OSRS

Old School RuneScape’s Agility skill impacts run energy regeneration and depletion. It’s a crucial skill, saving players from constantly using potions. Jagex is considering changes to how Agility affects run energy, potentially even making parts of the skill accessible in free-to-play. The aim is to improve the overall player experience and the value of the Agility skill itself. Let’s dive into how Agility currently functions and the proposed improvements.

How Agility Works

Training Agility primarily involves completing various obstacle courses throughout RuneScape. Quests also offer Agility experience. Improving this skill grants access to shortcuts, reducing travel time, and extends your run duration. Courses are level-locked, incentivizing progression. Popular courses include:

  • Gnome Stronghold (Level 1)
  • Draynor Village Rooftop (Level 10)
  • Varrock Rooftop (Level 30)
  • Canifis Rooftop (Level 40)
  • Ardougne Rooftop (Level 90)

Alternative training methods include the Hallowed Sepulchre minigame (Level 52+), the Agility Pyramid, and the perilous Wilderness Agility course. These diverse options allow players to choose the method that best suits their play style.

Is Weight Important?

Beyond Agility level, your character’s weight significantly impacts run energy. This is determined by equipped items and inventory contents, ranging from -64 to +64. Heavier loads deplete run energy faster. Certain activities, such as hot air balloon travel and diving, necessitate specific weight thresholds. Weight is a key consideration for efficient gameplay.

Managing your inventory and equipment is essential to minimize weight. Consider equipping lighter alternatives whenever possible. This will help you maintain a higher run speed and reduce the frequency of needing to rest or consume energy potions. Experiment to find the optimal balance between carrying necessary items and minimizing weight.

Graceful Outfit

The Graceful outfit is a valuable set acquired by training Agility. It reduces weight and improves run energy regeneration. It is a popular choice for questing and general exploration. Its non-tradeable nature makes it a significant early-game goal for many players.

To obtain the Graceful set, you need Marks of Grace, earned by completing Agility courses. These marks are then exchanged for individual pieces of the outfit at the Rogues’ Den. Each piece contributes to the overall weight reduction and energy regeneration benefits. The full set bonus provides a substantial advantage in exploration and skilling.

Proposed Changes

Jagex intends to enhance the Agility skill’s value and the Graceful outfit’s appeal, particularly addressing new player experiences. The adjustments involve scaling run energy restoration based on Agility level. Being weighed down will penalize players, making the Graceful outfit even more desirable, but not essential.

  • Buffing Energy Restoration: Increases restoration speed based on Agility.
  • Drain Modified by Agility and Weight: High agility negates weight penalties.
  • Rest Stop Revival: Adding free run energy restoration spots.

The goal is to improve the quality of life, make Agility more impactful, and encourage skill progression.

Consequences Incoming?

The proposed changes might lead to a slight reduction in run distance at low Agility levels with heavy weight. However, the changes aim for an overall buff to how much you can run. There will likely be a lower demand for the graceful outfit.

These changes may impact the potion market. The need for run-energy restoring potions may diminish, potentially causing price drops. Although Stamina potions will remain essential for boss encounters, their overall demand may decrease. The implications will shape the economy.
