The real game-changer comes with portable Portcrystals, allowing you to establish your own teleportation hubs. You can place up to ten of these portable beacons anywhere on the map, offering unparalleled flexibility.
To utilize Portcrystals, you’ll need Ferrystones, consumable items that power the teleportation. These stones can be acquired through exploration, quest rewards, or purchased from vendors. Despite the cost of Ferrystones, the time saved and safety provided by Portcrystals make them a worthwhile investment for any Arisen.
How to Use Portcrystals
Before using a Portcrystal for fast travel, you must activate it. Simply interact with the crystal (permanent or portable) to attune it to your journey. Once activated, it becomes a valid destination for teleportation.
To teleport, you’ll need a Ferrystone. When outside (Ferrystones cannot be used indoors), simply use a Ferrystone from your inventory, and you will be presented with a map displaying all the Portcrystals you have activated. Choose your destination and confirm to instantly transport yourself to that location. Strategic placement of Portcrystals is key to efficient exploration and quest completion.
Where to Get Portable Portcrystals
Obtaining portable Portcrystals is crucial for maximizing your fast travel capabilities. These valuable items are not readily available and require effort to acquire. You can find them by completing certain quests, trading with specific vendors, and even purchasing them. Maximizing the number of portable Portcrystals you possess will greatly improve the overall enjoyment of your adventure.
A Trial of Archery Side Quest
One of the first opportunities to obtain a portable Portcrystal arises from the side quest “A Trial of Archery.” This quest is located in Farnsworth. Initiating the quest involves finding and interacting with Glyndwr near Roderick’s Smithy. Successfully completing the archery trial presented by Glyndwr will reward you with a valuable portable Portcrystal, allowing for greater travel control.
Feast of Deception Main Quest
Progressing through the main storyline will eventually lead you to the quest “Feast of Deception.” This quest is received from Captain Brant in Vernworth after finishing “Unsettling Encounter.” Successfully navigating the events of this quest, which primarily involves socializing at a local inn with the captain, yields not only Gold and experience but also a portable Portcrystal as a reward for your efforts.
Sphinx Riddle of Madness and Conviction
Encounters with the enigmatic Sphinx are key to acquiring Portcrystals. The Sphinx presents a series of riddles, and depending on your choices, you can secure one or two Portcrystals. Starting with the “Riddle of Madness” will reward you with a Portcrystal after placing your Main Pawn on the dais. Subsequently, choosing the “Riddle of Conviction” allows you to duplicate an item; selecting the Portcrystal to be duplicated grants you a second one.
The Dragonforged Exchange
As you progress through the main story, you will encounter the Dragonforged. This NPC is found near Bakbattahl, after completing “Flickering Shadows.” Exit the city to the north through the residential ward and proceed towards the coast. Locate a bridge leading to a cave to the left of a nearby camp. The Dragonforged resides inside the cave to the left of the Riftstone.
The Dragonforged offers valuable items in exchange for Wyrmslife Crystals, earned by defeating drakes. You can purchase portable Portcrystals for 20 Wyrmslife Crystals each. He also offers Ferrystones for 3 Wyrmslife Crystals.
Portcrystal DLC
For those seeking a quicker route, Dragon’s Dogma 2 offers a Portcrystal DLC for purchase. This DLC provides a single portable Portcrystal for a small real-world fee. Another good spot is at either of the Sphinx Shrines, which could come in handy for a 2nd playthrough. Lastly, the Agamen Volcanic Island is an excellent location for a Portcrystal, making it easier to access high-level content and farming areas.
