Black Desert Online Beginner's Guide

Make Way for a Black Desert Online Beginners Guide

Is it too late to start playing BDO?

Many players wonder if they’re late to the party in Black Desert Online (BDO). The answer is a resounding no. While some players have already amassed significant resources and powerful gear, BDO is a marathon, not a sprint. It takes time and dedication to truly excel, but that means the game is very much open to newcomers. The continuous updates and evolving content ensure there’s always something fresh to discover, regardless of your starting point.

What is the best class?

Choosing your initial class is a crucial decision. There isn’t a single “best” class, as effectiveness depends greatly on play style and desired endgame goals. To assist in your choice, view the awakening videos for each class. This brief overview allows you to see how each class operates, enabling you to make an informed choice based on personal preference. While some classes, like Wizards, Witches, Warriors, and Death Knights, tend to hold appeal throughout the game’s progression, other classes like Rangers, Valkyries, Kunoichi, and Ninjas can still be very rewarding with consistent dedication and a deeper grasp of their intricacies.

Energy as the most important resource for a new player

  • Energy is a crucial resource in BDO, governing numerous actions.
  • The key is to maintain a consistent energy level; never allow it to peak.
  • Actively engage with NPCs, explore new areas, and participate in combat to strategically use your energy.
  • Maximized energy is a missed opportunity to complete key in-game actions that improve your character.

Family

Your “family” in BDO is a group of characters sharing the same last name. While you can transfer items among family members, some items remain exclusively tied to a specific character. Note that progress like knowledge, amity, housing, and worker benefits are shared within the family, but individual progress on quests, skills, and energy regeneration remains personal.

Questing

Black Desert Online’s questing system is varied. You initially encounter combat quests. As you progress beyond level 20, you’ll unlock opportunities for tradeskill, transport, and exploration quests. Occasionally, quests will have hidden requirements; for example, a prerequisite skill level or profession may be necessary before starting the quest. It’s crucial to research hidden prerequisites before you commit time to a quest; the game doesn’t always explicitly state these requirements.

The combat experience stands out. It often feels like a faster-paced action game compared to traditional MMOs. The fluidity of attacks and character animations provides an engaging combat dynamic.

Housing

Housing is a significant feature in BDO, allowing players to acquire and customize homes within the game. Points called Contribution points are required for house purchases. These homes can be used by the whole family, and players can furnish them with items, furniture, and essential storage. The game also allows the player to place a bed. Resting in this bed accelerates energy regeneration; however, you must remain logged in for this perk to function. The ability to relocate this home and storage to other cities gives you flexibility to focus on different areas of the game.

Workers

While potentially overlooked initially, workers are an essential aspect of income generation. As early as possible, hire workers for resource collection in starter cities. Workers increase your productivity and allow you to gather resources while you are not playing. Workers have different speeds; goblins are fast, humans are average, and giants are slow. Make sure to log in periodically to refresh them with beer.

Hiring a supervisor and then assigning workers is an excellent method of passive income and resource gathering.
