FFXVI’s combat is dynamic, leveraging the power of Eikons and their unique abilities to create impactful combos and stylish victories. Each Eikon offers a distinct gameplay experience, allowing players to tailor their strategies. This article details the abilities of each Eikon, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of their functionalities.

Phoenix

The Phoenix Eikon, accessible early in the game after completing the prologue quest “Sunrise, Sunset,” represents a powerful tool for close-quarters combat, inherited from Clive Rosfield’s brother, Joshua.

  • Phoenix Shift: Instants teleportation to a target location or enemy. Melee attacks and magical abilities can be used during the shift, increasing versatility.
  • Rising Flames: Summons a fiery wing to uppercut enemies, inflicting damage in the process. Allows for forceful vertical attacks.
  • Heatwave: Creates a flame wall blocking projectiles. The wall’s subsequent projectile slashes are enhanced by successfully blocking attacks, increasing the combo’s power.
  • Scarlet Cyclone: Clive spins in a fiery whirlwind, dealing damage to all enemies nearby. A versatile option for dealing with multiple foes.
  • Flames of Rebirth: Unleashes a blast of flames, dealing damage to nearby enemies and restoring a portion of Clive’s health. A valuable ability for maintaining health and output in combat.

Garuda

Unlock Garuda, the aerial Eikon, following the main quest “Wings of Change” in the Sanbreque region, earned after defeating the final boss, Benedikta Harman. This Eikon excels at fast-paced aerial combat.

  • Deadly Embrace: Summons a claw to pull weaker enemies towards Clive, inflicting further damage or stunning them if they’re already weakened.
  • Rook’s Gambit: A powerful counterattack following a jump. Timing it with an impending enemy attack greatly increases damage. Useful for setting up a devastating series of strikes and can be used mid-air.
  • Wicked Wheel: A powerful overhead attack that launches enemies into the air. Enables a range of follow-up combos and can be used mid-air.
  • Gouge: Summons twin claws for a powerful, multi-hit combo. Excellent for maximizing damage, especially in midair.
  • Aerial Blast: Summons a tornado that tracks and ensnares the nearest target. Ensures a constant flow of damage.

Ifrit

Ifrit, the fiery Eikon, is obtained after completing the “Buried Memories” quest. This Eikon leans towards aggressive, close-combat strategies, focusing on Clive Rosfield’s dominant role.

  • Will o’ the Wykes: Summons a swirling storm of fireballs. The fireballs damage enemies while absorbing incoming blows.
  • Limit Break: Activating the Limit Break gauge with L3 and R3 for a short period of enhanced combat performance. A key ability for maximizing damage.
  • Ignition: A charging attack that deals multiple hits and pushes enemies back. Useful for controlling positioning during close-range combat.

Ramuh

Ramuh, the lightning Eikon, is unlocked after completing the “Cid the Outlaw” quest in the Dhalmekian Republic region. It excels at single-target damage using quick, multiple hits for staggered enemies.

  • Blind Justice: Fires a barrage of ball lightning that can target multiple enemies. Allows for greater versatility in combat.
  • Thunderstorm: Calls forth a lightning storm that strikes a target. The ability can launch weaker enemies into the air.
  • Pile Drive: Slams the ground with Ramuh’s staff, dealing damage and pushing back enemies in the area.
  • Lightning Rod: Places a lightning orb on the ground, and striking it with an attack deals damage to nearby enemies. Provides a passive source of damage.
  • Judgment Bolt: Summon a powerful, single-target lightning bolt. Great for maximizing damage.

Titan

The Earth Eikon, Titan, is gained after beating the final boss of the Dhalmekian Republic, Hugo Kupka, after the “Bolts from the Blue” quest. This Eikon excels at precise timing for inflicting massive damage.

  • Titanic Block: A parry-based ability. Timing the guard perfectly enables a three-hit riposte combo, dealing significant damage.
  • Upheaval: Summons a fist that slams enemies to the ground. Holding the button expands the radius. Can be used mid-air.
  • Raging Fists: Unleashes a rapid punch combo. Timing the parry with the initial wind-up enhances the damage.
  • Windup: A charging punch that allows for a lunge-forward attack, creating a chained combo for greater damage.
  • Earthen Fury: Lifts the earth, dealing damage in a cone shape and launching enemies into the air. Effectively clearing the area.

Bahamut

Bahamut, earned after completing the “Fire in the Sky” quest, is a ranged Eikon excelling at sustained damage from a distance. Using Bahamut enables players to provide continuous damage while using other Eikons.

  • Wings of Light: Casts Megaflare. The casting time determines the potency, and dodging during casting shortens it. A precise ability for maximizing output.
  • Flare Breath: Channels a cone of flame that continually damages enemies in a line. Useful for tracking enemies.
  • Impulse: Launches light orbs around the first target, dealing continuous damage and grounding the target.
  • Satellite: Summons orbs firing at nearby enemies, dealing passive damage. Provides a consistent source of damage.
  • Gigaflare: Fires a massive beam of light, causing significant damage. One of Bahamut’s most powerful abilities.

Shiva

Shiva, the ice Eikon, is gained during the “Through the Maelstrom” quest, obtained before fighting the Liquid Flame boss, and is Jill Warrick’s dominant Eikon. Shiva excels at crowd control.

  • Rime: Summons an ice crystal to trap and damage enemies.
  • Ice Age: Unleashes a line of icicles that knock back enemies. Pressing the button increases the effect.
  • Mesmerize: Launches ice shards, pulling light enemies towards Clive. Can be used in mid-air.
  • Cold Snap: Dashes in a direction, leaving a projectile that freezes nearby enemies. Dodging an attack while using Cold Snap freezes enemies for a longer duration.
  • Diamond Dust: Summons an ice nova, dealing massive damage and freezing enemies. Effectively clearing an area.

Odin

Odin, the final Eikon obtained by defeating Barnabas Tharmr in the “The Last King” quest, is highly aggressive. It replaces Clive’s weapons with Odin’s Zantetsuken, enabling a new combat style.

  • Arm of Darkness: Transforming Clive’s weapon into Zantetsuken. Strikes deal multiple hits. Zantetsuken’s charge level depends on combo hits or abilities. Holding the button unleashes the final Zantetsuken attack.
  • Gungnir: Summons Gungnir to deal whirling strikes that increase the Zantetsuken meter.
  • Heaven’s Cloud: Dashing towards an enemy to damage and charge the Zantetsuken meter. Can be used multiple times for multiple targets.
  • Rift Slip: Cancels recovery animations after attacks. Increases combat flow.
  • Dancing Steel: Summons a second blade for a barrage of rapid slashes that rapidly charges the Zantetsuken gauge.
