The Finals update 1.5, released on January 17th, brings a plethora of improvements and changes to the popular free-to-play FPS. This update introduces a new limited-time mode, “Solo Bank It,” alongside balancing adjustments, bug fixes, and a larger in-game store. Security enhancements focus on tackling unfair play, with the developers highlighting a commitment to a safer, fairer gaming environment.

Balance Changes: Abilities & Gadgets

Several abilities and gadgets have undergone adjustments to maintain a healthy gameplay dynamic. The update introduces adjustments to charge times, cooldown periods, damage output, and other crucial factors affecting player performance. These modifications aim to offer a balanced experience for all players. Key changes include:

  • Cloaking Device: Activation cost increased to 2 seconds, minimum charge time to 2.5 seconds.
  • Recon Senses: Activation cost increased to 1.5 seconds, minimum charge time reduced to 2 seconds.
  • C4: Player damage and minimum damage decreased.
  • Flashbang: Cooldown reduced to 18 seconds.
  • Gas Mine: Cooldown increased to 27 seconds.
  • Incendiary Mine: Cooldown reduced to 27 seconds.
  • Vanishing Bomb: Cooldown reduced to 18 seconds.
  • RPG: Player damage reduced to 140.
  • Stun Gun: Stun duration decreased to 3.75 seconds.
  • Tracking Dart: Cooldown reduced to 13 seconds, new Scoped Zoom Sensitivity Multiplier added.

Game Modes: Quick Cash, Bank It, Tournament

The update features improvements to the existing game modes, along with a new “Solo Bank It” game mode. This experimental mode challenges players to accumulate the most cash against 11 other competitors. Optimizations include shortened game show event start times and adjustments to match dynamics in existing game modes like Quick Cash and Ranked Tournament. Key Changes Include:

  • Bank It: Game show event start time reduced from 6 minutes to 4 minutes.
  • Quick Cash: Game show event start time reduced from 6 minutes to 4 minutes, team wipe respawn time increased to 18 seconds.
  • Ranked Tournament: Team wipe respawn time increased to 26 seconds.
  • Tournament: Team wipe respawn time increased to 26 seconds, tournament unlocks after a single round (previously 12).

Maps & Environmental Improvements

Significant map improvements in “Las Vegas,” “Monaco,” “Seoul,” and “Vegas” deliver more realism and enhanced gameplay. Improvements focus on enhanced destruction effects, optimization of lighting, and fixing various issues like clipping and obstacles impacting player movement and aiming. Also, improvements to the way throwable objects behave, by adding mass and reducing their throwing distance.

  • Las Vegas: Updated destruction and strain systems, various zipline adjustments.
  • Monaco: Fixed awning clipping, optimized lighting for specific weather types.
  • Seoul: Fixed hospital spawn issues, addressed railing obstructions.
  • Vegas: Fixed map border obstructions, ladder fixes, asset alignment, and spotlight adjustments.
  • General: Improved elevator floor display, corrected lingering smoke/team logo issues.

Weapons & Movement

Weapon adjustments target refined balance and responsiveness. The updates improve aiming and recoil management, making some weapons easier to use and reducing or increasing damage to maintain player balance. Movement improvements focus on fixing vaulting issues and adjusting the interactions with objects and obstacles in the maps. Throwing knives get a visual upgrade.

  • Flamethrower: Damage increased to 30.
  • LH1: Damage increased to 49.
  • M11: Recoil pattern updated for easier control.
  • SH1900 Shotgun: Damage per pellet decreased to 10.
  • M60: Damage increased to 22.
  • Riot Shield: Attack animations and hit sweeps updated, fixed invisibility/ladder-blocking issues.
  • SA1216: Fixed rapid-fire issue.
  • SR-84: New Scoped Zoom Sensitivity Multiplier added.
  • Throwing Knives: Trail effects added, shortened lifespan stuck in metal surfaces.
  • V9S: Damage increased to 36.

Controller, Console, UI and Bug Fixes

The update includes controller-focused enhancements, console-specific bug fixes, substantial UI improvements, and numerous crash fixes. Additional general fixes for player movement and quick-melee interactions are also included.

  • Controller: Added reload/pick-up button priority option.
  • Console: Fixed mouse/keyboard enabling issue.
  • UI: Corrected scoreboard, nameplate, and setting screen issues; improved overall visual clarity.
  • General: Resolved various crash, disconnect, and visual glitches across all platforms.
  • Movement: Super-gliding fix and snapier vaulting.
  • Quick Melee: Prevents use on ladders.
  • VoIP: Set to enabled by default on both PC (Push-to-talk) and console (Voice-activated) for new installations.
  • Weapons: Fixed bullet dispersion/spread, correct throwing knife skins, melee cheat fixes.
